Cocovilla
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Answers about buying, owning, and earning from a Cocovilla coconut plantation plot.
1. What exactly am I buying at Cocovilla?
You're purchasing a 640 sqm plot of agricultural land in Gberefu Island, fully documented with a Deed of Assignment and Registered Survey, and pre-cultivated with 40 hybrid coconut trees.
2. How long before I start seeing returns?
Returns begin from Year 4, once the trees reach full fruit-bearing maturity. Harvests occur 3 times a year.
3. Is this a one-time payment or annual subscription?
It is a one-time purchase per plot. However, a small annual service fee covers maintenance (e.g., irrigation, security, weeding) even after the trees are fully independent.
4. What are the risks involved?
As with any agricultural investment, there are natural risks such as weather, pests/disease, logistics challenges and market price fluctuations. However, our use of resilient hybrid species, expert agronomy, and estate management minimizes this significantly. Coconut is also a climate-tolerant tree with high survivability.
5. Can I resell or transfer my plot?
Yes. You can resell or transfer your plot with approval from Verdant Isle Ltd. You may also pass it down via will, trust, or next-of-kin transfer.
6. Can I fence or build on my land?
Permanent buildings or concrete fencing are not allowed. Temporary fencing may be done using bamboo, coconut stems, or wood, but only after the trees have reached a safe height.
7. What if I live abroad or outside Lagos?
No problem. Cocovest is designed as a remote, hands-free investment. We provide regular updates, reports, and can facilitate digital documentation and onboarding.
8. Can I visit the estate before or after purchase?
Yes, site inspections are encouraged. We organize regular group tours to Gberefu Island for prospective and current investors.
9. How do I monitor the status of my investment?
Verdant Isle provides:
- Quarterly updates (photos, reports)
- Periodic estate visit invitations
- Access to a support desk and digital dashboard
10. What is the lifespan of a hybrid coconut tree?
The economic life of a hybrid coconut tree typically ranges from 60 to 100 years.
11. What is the minimum and maximum investment allowed?
- Minimum: 1 plot
- Maximum: No upper limit
12. How are harvests done and payments made?
- Harvest is managed centrally by estate professionals
- Coconuts are weighed, logged, and sold
- Payments are made to the investor's designated bank account either triannually or annually
13. Do I need to pay any taxes on earnings?
Investors are responsible for personal tax obligations on harvest income generated from their plots, where applicable under Nigeria's new tax reforms laws.
